As the graphic designer for Interactive for Good, I feel especially lucky to work with one of our clients, Mocha Club, on a personal and professional level. Mocha Club is about connecting your community with their community in Africa. One joins Mocha Club’s initiative by giving up $7 a month, the cost of 2 mochas. The $7 is then dedicated to a specific need or cause in Africa such as building wells for clean water, orphan care, hiv/aids, and women at risk.
A year and half ago I was fortunate enough to travel to Ethiopia with Mocha Club to visit a few of these projects first hand. We spent time with women in Nazaret, Ethiopia where women were rehabilitated from a life of prostitution as an attempt to escape their situation of poverty. The “Women At Risk” program provides spiritual, emotional, and psychological counseling. One of the best aspects of seeing this first hand besides meeting these wonderful women was visiting their coffee house they started as a means to support themselves and their children!
